Helicopter Training Courses
A structured path from zero hours to commercial certificate, built around the actual FAA requirements and real-world helicopter training. Each course builds on the last.
Private Pilot (PPL)
The foundation. Learn helicopter systems, aerodynamics, flight controls, and all the maneuvers required for your private certificate.
- 40 hours minimum flight time
- 10 hours solo (including 3 hrs XC)
- Aerodynamics & helicopter systems
- Emergency procedures & autorotation
- FAA written & checkride prep
Instrument Rating (IFR)
Fly in IMC with confidence. Attitude instrument flying, aeromedical factors, holding patterns, and IFR-specific emergencies.
- 50 hours XC PIC, 40 hours instrument time
- Scan techniques and primary/supporting instruments
- Holding patterns: DFRATE, 3 entry types, 5 Ts
- Hypoxia, ICEFLAGGS illusions, GARRF visual illusions
- Partial panel, lost comm, IIMC, constant attitude autorotation
Prerequisite: PPL
Start IFRCommercial Pilot (CPL)
Get paid to fly. Commercial regulations, advanced hazards, night and mountain operations, and the decision-making framework for flying for hire.
- 150 hours total time required
- 100 hours PIC, 50 hours XC
- Hazards: settling with power, dynamic rollover, retreating blade stall, ground resonance
- Night & mountain operations
- ADM, CRM, and risk management frameworks
Prerequisite: PPL (IFR strongly recommended)
Start CPLCertified Flight Instructor (CFI)
Stop learning to fly and start learning to teach flying. Fundamentals of Instruction, lesson planning, instructor responsibilities, and endorsements.
- 250 hours PIC, 100 helicopter PIC
- FOI: human behavior, learning process, communication (COIL)
- Lesson planning & scenario-based training
- Instructor responsibilities & flight reviews
- Endorsements with FAR citations & AC 61-65 templates
Prerequisite: Commercial certificate
Start CFIPart 107 — Remote Pilot
Commercial drone certification for sUAS under 55 lbs. Full study guide based on FAA AC 107-2, covering everything on the knowledge test.
- sUAS characteristics & registration
- Remote PIC responsibilities & CRM
- Operating rules & airspace authorizations
- Operations over people (Cat 1–4)
- Emergency procedures & accident reporting
No prerequisite — separate from manned-aircraft certificates
